Travelling to Ireland
BY AIR
The most direct route to getting to Ireland and the start of the Dingle Way is to fly to Kerry Airport in Faranfore which is 18km from Tralee. Due to the size of the airport however there are only a limited amount of flights that land here. Ryanair fly to Kerry from Frankfurt and Stansted and Aer Arann have flights from Dublin and Manchester.
Cork Airport and Shannon Airport are the next closest both being around 120km from Tralee. There is a broad range of incoming flights landing at both of these airports.
If you are still finding difficulty in sourcing a flight from your nearest airport then Dublin Airport may be able to provide you with an answer. Be warned that Dublin is over four hours from Tralee by car and it may be worth investigating other airports within your own country to see if they serve Cork or Shannon.
BY SEA
The west of Ireland does not receive any passenger ferries from abroad. The nearest harbour to Tralee is in County Cork where there are limited ferries arriving from Wales and France.
As the name suggests Swansea Cork Ferries have frequent sailings from Swansea in South-East Wales to Cork from mid-March to the start of January. Brittany Ferries have one weekly sailing between Cork and Roscoff in the North-West of France.
Other ports that have regular sailings to Britain and the continent include Rosslare Europort in the South-East of Ireland, Dun Laoighaire and Dublin Port both mid way up the East coast of the country. Ferry companies that travel from these ports include Stena Line, Irish Ferries, Celtic Link Ferries and Norse Merchant Ferries.
